Vincentian Collaborative Systems of McCandless PA developed Terrace Place, a 91 unit senior apartment building which opened in 2018.  Ewing Cole provided the architecture and guided the overarching concept of a sustainable and technically advanced senior community, based on a design charrette held in conjunction with the client and their residents from other facilities.  Morse Associates provided the civil engineering and landscape architecture which designed with the site ecology in mind.

Terrace Place

Allison Park, PA

Field identification of specimen trees provided a map of existing ecological site assets to be preserved, and guided the design of the site to minimize disturbance.  The overall site seeks to create a series of stormwater amenities which will in turn provide a variety of ecologies.  Several rain gardens throughout the site were planted with pollinator and waterfowl species, and a wet pond on site will bring additional wildlife in due time.  There is no shortage of deer on site, and the vegetation was selected in order to reduce the likelihood of consumption.  The site design provides an array of amenities including outdoor lounging and dining, fire table, walking path with minimal grade change, and raised garden beds fed with stormwater from an oversized rain barrel.  The client’s focus on sustainability made working on this project especially rewarding.
